Welcome to Brandy Station Volunteer Fire Departments official web site. We thank those who have volunteered their time and energy for the community of Brandy Station, Virginia. The Brandy Station Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. is located on the eastern side of Culpeper County, Virginia. The community is often remembered for its civil war history. Most significant being that the Brandy Station area was the site of the largest Calvary battle (June 9, 1863) ever to be fought during the civil war. The “Battle of Brandy Station” lasted for 14 hours resulting in 500 Confederate and 900 Union soldiers’ deaths. (See Brandy Station Foundation for more History of the Battle)
The community that the department proudly serves and protects today is largely agriculture and residential. Also, located in the department’s first due area is an industrial park, the Culpeper County Regional Airport, Southern Rail Road, Route 15/29 corridor, an assisted living center, a community sports complex, and the Rappahannock river. The majority of the first due area served is non-hydrant with the exception being the industrial park. The department consists of forty-six active volunteer members. Currently the department is in the process of a building expansion that will include a sleeping facility for its members. Personnel currently respond to the building to answer all emergency calls dispatched by the Culpeper Emergency Dispatch Center. The current building used to house the department’s apparatus was built in 1980. The building consists of four twelve-foot drive through bays, control office, wash room, mechanical room, storage room, member’s entertainment room, male and female bathrooms. The apparatus bays are equipped with a diesel exhaust removal system for the protection of its personnel. Currently personnel are outfitted with Lion Apparel Advance Nomex PPE, and utilize the 4500-psi SCOTT breathing apparatus. The department maintains and operates a Bauer 6000-psi air compressor and fill station.
Revenue is generated through fund raising events including weekly bingo, annual carnival/parade event, banquet hall rentals, community donations, and dinners held by the auxiliary to the fire department. Bingo is held every Saturday night starting at 7:00 p.m. The County of Culpeper provides supplemental reimbursement for operational expenses only.
