The Brandy Station Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1951. Since its inception, the department has grown in size and success.

The following briefly describes the types of membership categories: Please refer to these categories when requesting information.
Active (18+ years old)
Firefighter Job Description
An active operational member is at least eighteen years of age, participates in the emergency operational activities associated with the BVFD on a regular basis. Active operational members respond to emergencies when dispatched as a firefighter or Emergency Medical Technician. All active operational members are required to maintain a minimum of 36 hours of participation per quarter (12 hours per month preferred), in addition to the required minimal training certification listed below. These hours can be obtained by attending training or other official department functions.
Within one year of acceptance into the department, he shall minimally obtain the training certifications for the Commonwealth of Virginia Fire Fighter 1 or EMT-B; EVOC 2; and the health care provider CPR. Exception to the minimal training certification requirement for Firefighter 1 or EMT-B shall be granted for members joining the department prior to January 11, 2006. Failure to obtain the above mentioned minimal hours of participation and training requirement may result in termination of membership or change of status.
Administrative (18+ years old)
Admin Job Description
An active administrative member is at least eighteen years of age, participates in administrative functions associated with the BVFD on a regular basis. An active administrative member shall not be required to participate in emergency operational duties. Administrative functions include but are not limited to all fund raiser activities, finance and accounting, clerical duties, committee meetings, work details and etc. All active administrative members are required to maintain a minimum of 36 hours of participation per quarter (12 hours per month preferred), in addition to required CPR training. Failure to obtain the above mentioned minimal hours of participation and training requirement may result in termination of membership or change of status. An active administrative member may not concurrently be an active member of the BVFD Auxiliary.
Supporting (18+ years old)
Supporting members are needed to fulfill vital functions related to the operations of the company, including finances and accounting, clerical duties, communications, and tech support and etc. This member is at least eighteen years of age, desires to be of service to the department but does not wish to be considered an active member and does not desire to have a voting right. The time served as a supporting member shall not be included in the accumulative years needed to qualify as a Life member. All supporting members are required to maintain a minimum of 48 hours of participation per year.
Failure to complete a minimum of 48 hours of service per year without an acceptable excuse may result in termination of membership.
Junior (16-17 years old)
Jr. Firefighter Job Description
A junior member is sixteen or seventeen years of age, has written permission from a parent or legal guardian to be such a member, and shall participate in all department activities as would an active operational member. Any station and/or fire ground limitations and restrictions applicable to a junior member shall be established by the Chief and approved by the Board of Directors. During the junior probationary period, the member shall successfully complete the healthcare provider CPR certification. Junior members shall not have the right to vote. Junior members may submit a membership application for senior membership one month prior to their eighteenth birthday. Junior members accepted into senior active membership shall not be placed on a probationary status provided they have served a minimum of six months as a junior member of the BVFD.
